Harley Quinn Hat tutorial by PainfulSuffering Harley Quinn Hat tutorial by PainfulSuffering
I'm being Harley Quinn for comic/anime- con '10 and didn't want to buy it... so i decided to make it...

So I was having difficulty finding a good enough for me tutorial or guide to making a harley quinn hat... so i decided to make one...

and i have made the hat, so i know this works...

IMPORTANT NOTE

the pictures above are not meant to be cut out... they are not drawn to scale so you can try it... but there's no guarantee’s it'll work

a lot of it is trial and error... sorry

but the hat is by far the hardest part (haven’t attempted the wrist things yet) so I’ve decided you can learn from my pain… also I’ve sewn the entire thing by hand… not just the hat the entire costume… boy does that suck…

so yeah... feel free to ask any questions related to the tutorial... sorry if it's not clear or there's some missing information... Let me know and I’ll try to correct it…

I might make tutorials for the rest of the costume... let me know if you would be interested in that...

Harley Quinn (c) DC comics
Tutorial (c) me

**Edit**

well for some reason this is the most Favorited and most viewed picture in my gallery...

so... thanks...

although it's not an art work... so that's sad...

but thanks ^_^

I'm having a hard time getting all the measurements to match up for some reason... I'm just confused and frustrated :/ Any tips? I follow the guide and it just doesn't match up.. I measured the "tallness" from my forehead to my neck to get 20 inches, then I measured my forehead to get a total of 24 inches.. face opening was 15 1/2 and neck to get 16... e The tallness isn't long enough to allow the hood to look like the guide..

with it already cut i'm not to sure what to tell you... other then if you have more fabric try again making the forehead to neck part longer...

i made this years ago... so i don't actually remember everything... and did wing some of it...

sorry i couldn't be more help :[

I'm not quite sure exactly how to sew on the cones. Any clarification?

well once they're made lay the rest of the hat over them (one at a time) and with whatever stitch you want, sew through the hat and the cone...

obviously you stitch from the side that will be going on your head (the inside) and up through the bottom of the cone...

at this point the bottom fabric of the cone should be hidden under it so there's no pieces hanging over...

I really want a hat more like in the comics, where it doesn't stand on its own... it just droops down to her shoulders... do you know where i could find a pattern for that?

no, but i'd suggest making the cones larger and not putting as much stuffing into them

I'm dressing up as Harley for school and I think I'm going to make the costume myself since buying it is so expensive...
so I would LOVE a tutorial for the whole costume, please :)

okay... well i didn't exactly go out an buy fabric... but i did go out (to walmart because there's no point in paying a lot for something you're going to cut up)) and buy a long sleeve red and long sleeve black stretchy plain shirt...

i cut down the middle vertically and horizontally in the end there are 4 pieces... ((well technically 8 but you only need 4))

i sewed one black top with the sleeve ((because the Gotham girls costume is wrong)) to the red top with the sleeve.

then to that the other two pieces on the bottom.

same with the pants which i'd make sure to get the same kind... because i had problems... i cut it down the middle seam and sewed the two legs together.

diamonds are obvious, just use the leftover scraps and cut them out, and sew em on...

any thing else?

I am sitting here now, trying to make a pattern for that darn hat, and then I come across this. Now it all seems easier to start out with. Probably not to make, but at least I got a starting point. Thanks SO much. Now it might be possible for me to get down to the store and buy enough fabric. xD
Thank you, thank you, thank you... :3

I'm sure it's gonna save me a lot of trouble. :3 I'm glad I found your tutorial. C: Though I am thinking of making one first for practice and then the real one afterwards, so I'm sure I'm not making any mistakes with the real one. ^^
